A Word on NPC Stats #
Mechanically, NPCs are similar to player characters, though they do have some differences that are worth mentioning:
Skills are the only attribute type they have (NPCs do not use styles). This makes running them a little smoother. When a mechanic affects the use of a style, think about how the NPC acts, fiction-wise.
Stress does not have to relate to the NPC’s Survive skill. In general, take their stats as-is (unless they have gained new equipment or effects aside from their starting point).
Actions are ready-made things the NPC can do. Those with a damage score are attacks, and require a Fight test as usual. Some require spending Chaos before taking them.
Cannot take Reactions. Unlike PCs, they cannot Defend themselves or Assist allies (unless specified otherwise).
Finally, they do not have Determination. That meta-currency is player-only.
